How to Make Easy Dog Treats

Okay, I promised you a dog treat recipe so here it is. And did I mention that it is super simple dog treat recipe? Even if you aren't Betty Crocker or Martha Stewart I have complete faith that anyone can make these.

There is a grand total of 3 ingredients! I would also say there is a pretty good chance you have these ingredients on hand. Are  your ready??

Here it is:

Ingredients:

1 cup milk
1 cup peanut butter
2 cups flour

(Now the hard part, but not really.)

Instructions:

Mix all ingredients together.
Roll dough out on a floured counter top (so it doesn't stick).

Cut dough into dog treat shapes, or if you're like me, little flowers and hearts because you don't have a dog bone cookie cutter. (Trust me, your dog won't care what they look like.)

Place on a cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 8 minutes or so, depending on the size of your treats.

I just baked them until they were a little more well done than a human cookie. Basically, not rock hard but not fall apart chewy. (It's an exact science obviously).

Take out of the oven and let cool before serving to your dog. He will love you forever.

I use these a lot as training treats since they are little and I don't feel bad giving Gunnar a handful of them. He doesn't mind either. Let me know if you have questions and enjoy!

7 Quick Takes (5)

1. Super excited about a co-host post (is that a thing) I'm doing with my bloggy friend Kala at My Breezy Room next week. I should probably make sure I get the project done this weekend though. Cryptic enough for ya?! Oh and you should probably check out her most recent furniture transformation. It's legit.

2. My eyelids feel like they weigh 10,000lbs right now. I'm not sure though if it's because I'm tired, which I am, or darn allergies. I love spring/summer but I'm not loving the allergies this year. I literally wake up every morning with a tickle in my nose and sneeze. Over it already.

3. The library has become my new best friend. Well as best of friends as inanimate things can be anyways. I don't know why I think this is so cool all the sudden. Maybe it's because I'm just used to always having to pay for things at this point in my life. I just checked out a few more audio books and I was getting ready to pull out my wallet to pay when it hit me! No ma'm, your money's no good here (unless you return the goods late that is.) Yep, I'm a nerd.

4. In the past 5 days my dog has killed a total of 5(!!!) baby bunnies:( It is really sad, but at the same time, I guess I'm glad they aren't stealing food from my garden. Gunnar is just SO proud of himself but I wish he would catch the darn birds eating my strawberries instead.

5. Today I found a recipe for Cotton Candy Cake Cookies from Mama Miss and I almost peed my pants with excitement. Okay not really but you get the picture. I'm what you might call mildly obsessed with cotton candy ever since I was little. Some people have signature drinks or a carving station at their weddings, I had a cotton candy station. (And, cotton candy taffy, stick candy and rock candy). Complete with a sign I hand painted. Love the stuff!

this may or may not be hanging in my house now...

6. Since the person who has checked out the third season of Downton Abbey from the library obviously doesn't have the dedication that I have, and therefor hasn't returned it yet, I have had to start a new series while I wait. Impatiently. I had heard that if you like Downton Abbey you will probably enjoy Call the Midwife. They were right. I do enjoy it. I'm about four episodes in and it is quite good. I still want the DA though. Hurry up you under-ambitious tv show watcher that's hogging the only copy.

7. In approximately 2. 5 hours I get to see my husband again. That will last approximately 42 hours before I don't get to see him again. And then I will wait another 290 hours (approx) before I get to see him again. This whole work out of town biz is getting OLD. As are we...

Happy friday lovely people!

Gardening 2013

It's garden season folks! Finally, I might add.

After what I like to refer to as "the longest winter known to man" it's time to enjoy those beautiful spring days.

Last Tuesday I was able to get my garden planted after a couple days without rain. I've got a feeling I may have timed my planting perfectly again this year. Want to know why?

This is why...

...everything is sprouting!!

Literally, everything I planted is popping through the dirt. The photos are from planting last week and when I checked it all out last night. Only 6 days after putting it in the ground! In case you can't tell I'm totally fascinated and amazed that this can happen in under a week. I'm also super excited for the produce to come.

Gunnar "helping" me plant corn last week. That's potatoes to the left. May 14th.

Planting the Peaches and Cream sweet corn. Last Tuesday, May 14th.

Onions on the left followed by 3 rows of potatoes. Next to the potatoes are two rows of corn.
Photo taken last Tuesday right after the corn was planted. May 14th

The corn sprouting last night! May 20th.

Strawberries that were planted last year and will produce this year. You need to pick the blooms off the first year so that they will grow and produce a lot the second year. May 20th.

The onions have more than doubled in size since last week.  May 20th.

Cant' remember what this is...cantaloupe maybe?
Potatoes last night after doubling in size since last week.
These are the same ones Gunnar was sitting next to in the photo above. May 20th.

Please ignore the weeds, it's been to wet the last couple days to weed and they sort of multiply when they get rain.

There is lots of other stuff I have planted but haven't posted photos of yet. Including 10 tomato plants, 2 pepper plants, a jalepeno plant and a serrano pepper plant, lettuce, spinach, zucchini, squash, and pumpkins. Plus a few herbs like cilantro which is great for salsa.

My husband loves spicy and so I hope to be making him lots of spicy salsa, with all those peppers, later on this summer.

If you have any gardening questions feel free to let me know. This is only my second year with my "own" garden but my mom has had one my whole life. I have/had grandparents with Green Thumbs on both sides of the family so I'm hoping I got lucky and got the thumb and not just beginners luck last year.

7 Quick Takes (2)

1. I'm loving my new phone! Not loving that my phone case from Amazon still hasn't been delivered. I mean, I placed the order Monday and it's Friday and still no delivery! Oh, and is there an app for patience?? Haha

2. I work for a printing company and they are very pet friendly. This is my newest co-worker, Bear. He helps me keep from stressing out some days. I would bring Gunnar but he would probably eat everything and ruin it for everyone so he gets to stay home.

3. My husband is on his way home to see me finally! Two weeks away is never fun but so glad that it should be ending in the next month or so. Then we finally get to take a vacay and spend the summer together doing fun stuff like going to Royals games. Love me some baseball!

4. I've been eating really healthy all week (minus my daily Pepsi's and occasional cookie) and the sales guys had to go and ruin it today by bringing us donuts for breakfast and pizza for lunch. No will power here...maybe I'm getting better though because I did only eat one slice of pizza and one donut. That's gotta count for something right?

From this...

...to this...

...to this. Oops.

5. I'm currently obsessed with the following songs:
Boys Round Here - Blake Shelton
I know what you did in the dark (Light em up) - Fall Out Boy
Can't Hold Us - Macklemore ft Ryan Lewis.

All these songs make me want to jam out big time.

6. It's May 3rd and it was snowing yesterday and acting like it wants to snow today. Come on KS, get it together! I need Summer NOW!!!

7. Earlier this week I bought a food dehydrator and last night I tested it out by drying strawberries, bananas, apples, pineapple, and blueberries. I tried a few of the fruits this morning and they are delish. I'm super pumped about trying some other stuff including jerky and then some herbs once it warms up enough for me to grow them in my garden. If you have any suggestions of good stuff to dehydrate, let me know.

Happy Weekend!! You can follow mine on Instagram, here:)

Outsmarted by my Puppy

It's official. My puppy has outsmarted me.

Look how freakin' cute he was!!

Since we live out in the country we let Gunnar run free a lot of the time.

He pretty much has the best life a puppy could ask for if you ask me. Tons of birds to chase. A pond to splash into when it's hot out. Trees and tall grass to run through and LOTS of sticks to chew on.

Unfortunately, he is still a puppy and chews destroys things that aren't sticks or bones.

For example:
The neighbors delivered packages.
The neighbors kids toys - balls of every shape and size for every sport you can imagine.
The nice wooden furniture on our porch.
Shoes - especially boots.
Plastic
Trash
Door handles that have yet to be put on our new building (How could this be enjoyable??)

Exhibit 542 of the destruction.

Lucky for us we have awesome neighbors who have been so nice about our puppy eating their things. They have been more than patient as they wait for new deliveries arrive of items I have had to re-order for them.

That's the problem though, I'm sick of having to re-buy things because my darn dog keeps eating them! I want him to stop eating things he shouldn't.

So, in comes the solution, we thought.

We have a great fenced in area of our yard that is the perfect spot for a puppy. It's got tons of room and shade trees and a big shed that Gunnar can go into to get out of the elements or take a little nap. The only problem was that Gunnar's little ninja self could jump up and then climb over the short part of the fence. I estimate he would wait approximately 30 seconds for my car to be out of sight in the morning and he would be over that fence.

Sneaky little guy.

Don't let that face fool ya. He's a smart one!
Anyways, my husband was home a few weekends ago, and I'm sure he was tired of my complaining, so he fixed the fence. He put a couple rows of electric fencing up above where Gunnar would climb out in order to prevent him from escaping

You know what, it worked like a charm! Day after day I would come home and there would be my sweet puppy, ready to come out to play.

Well, he's figured me out. In the mornings he would always run up to great me and say hello before I went to work, but he's learned. He knows I'm going to put him in his pen and he doesn't come running anymore. Actually, he runs the opposite direction.

Quick summary of the week:

Monday - Ran in to the garage to great me and I put him in his pen for the day.
Tuesday - Ran in to see me and got about 2 feet away. Stopped. Ran away as far and fast as possible.
Wednesday - I tricked him and called him to the front door. He thought he was going to be coming inside to hang out with me. Little did he know I was going to put his little butt in his pen.
Thursday - I thought I would try the front door again. Opened it. Called for him. Watched his brown body bounce over the tall grass farther and farther away until I couldn't see him anymore. Dang it.

We will just have to wait and see what tomorrow brings.

Good thing he's cute!

Seriously, how cute was he? I want another puppy. (What ya think Seth?)
