The Day My Husband Saved A Life

Yesterday I got a text from Seth saying, "The craziest thing just happened to me." Naturally I asked if he won the lottery. He didn't, but he did do something else that I think was pretty darn amazing...

He was stopped at a red light in Bartlesville Oklahoma when the lady in the truck stopped next to him, slammed her gas pedal to the floor and rammed into the car stopped in front of her. She continued to push down the gas pedal and was pushing the car in front of her into the busy intersection.

Seth looked over thinking the lady had a serious case of road rage since she was going all monster truck on the poor guy in front of her. At that point he realized she was convulsing and having a seizure.

And this is where it gets really good...

My husband put his truck in park, somehow managed to remember to turn on his hazards and jumped out to help the lady. He tried her passenger side door but it was locked so he unlocked his tool box and got out a sledge hammer. Then he broke out her side window fire fighter style and unlocked her door.

The whole time this is happening her tires are still spinning and smoking on the pavement, continuing to push other vehicle forward.

From there he jumps in her car, throws the truck in park and turns it off.

At that point, the man, who was being pushed out into traffic, manages to get his vehicle in park and climb out. Obviously well trained by insurance companies, he clutches his neck while saying, "my neck" and starts whining about his vehicle. Seth ignores him and yells for him to call 911.

After a few minutes a cop shows up and comes to talk to Seth who is still sitting with the lady in her truck.  The cop and Seth continue to talk to the lady and try to keep her conscious, while they wait for an ambulance to arrive.

A few minutes later an ambulance arrives and they take the lady to the hospital. The cops had Seth fill out a report and then they all shook his hand telling him what a great job he did.

I would have to say I'm pretty proud of this fella! He jumped into action to help someone that couldn't help themselves. And, maybe saved several people from getting seriously hurt (or worse) if the cars had ended up in the busy intersection.

He's pretty much the best:) (by pretty much I mean definitely)

I think this guy deserves a vacation! How about next Friday? :)

Is Crossfit Ruining Marriages??

Driving to work this morning I happened to catch the last half of a discussion on my favorite radio show. Is Crossfit ruining your relationships? While I don't technically "do" crossfit, I do workout at a place that has small group classes and killer workouts that are similar to crossfit and equally as intense. Obviously I was intrigued by the conversation.

The general gist of the convo was that people let crossfit consume their whole lives and their relationships will suffer if their significant other isn't a crossfitter as well.

Well hello people. If you let anything consume your lives it's bound to have a negative impact on your relationship. You think if I watched nonstop tv while my husband was home our relationship wouldn't suffer? I guarantee it would and my house would be disgusting. I've watched people I work out with who put fitness above everything else, including relationships. And those relationships have suffered. There's a definite need for balance and some people are good at it while others are obviously lacking.

I like to think of myself as one of the ones who can balance it out. Or maybe I'm kidding myself and I'm just pathetic and lazy. I only go twice a week and I'm sure some would consider that not enough but I like to think I have a pretty well rounded life that includes things outside of working out. Like eating for example. And trash tv.

There is definitely a need for health and fitness in everyone's life but you have to remember to live your life as well. If you spend all your time holed up in a gym you're gonna miss out on some pretty cool stuff.

Besides when you're burning 900+ calories a workout, do you really need to go every day?
True story, these are my stats from last nights workout.
Moral of the story. Put as much time into your relationships as you do your fitness and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Keep in mind that my husband STILL works out of town so my workouts never take time away from him at this point. My opinion may change if we ever get to live in the same house.

Also, he never has to see me when I look like this....
Yes, that's sweat.

If you love or hate crossfit you should also check out this article titled #stopcrossfit. It will crack your shiz up and you might burn a few calories;)

Canvas Prints Deal - A really good one!

Remember when I told you that I finally ordered some wedding photos here? Well, when I ordered them I got one heck of deal and the deal is back so I thought I would be nice and share.

The deal is through a site called Eversave which is a site similar to Groupon.

Right now you can order...
1 - 16x20 for $30
OR
2 - 16x20s for only $40. That's a freakin awesome deal right there people.  Usually the lowest I see on Groupon is $39 for 1 - 16x20.

You know what else is cool though? When I ordered last time I didn't have to order the 16x20s. Basically, I just got the dollar amount of what the 16x20 normally was and I got to use it on whatever. So I actually ordered a 24x36 (I think??) and a 12x12 and it was only $40!!!! Plus I ordered 2 of the 16x20s as Mothers Day presents for both my mom and Seth's mom. They loved them:)

Only bad news is that today's the last day to order so jump on it! This is my referral link but it may actually get you a discount too...not positive so let me know if you try it and it does.

In case you forgot what they looked like. This is the 24x36.
I promise my walls aren't diaper green also....they're actually brown...

Quality looks terrible in this photo but that's what you get
with low lighting and filters on an iPhone. Real quality is actually great!
As soon as you order you can actually email someone or post it to any social media and they put $2 in your account for a future purchase:) Gotta love those deals!

P.S. I'm a cheapo so I don't order things like this unless it's a good deal and good quality. I just reordered 2 more of the 2-16x20's so I'm gonna have 4 new prints soon! Yippee.

Have I put on weight??

I'd say I had a semi-average weekend. What else is new?

After work Friday I stopped by to check out the progress on my parents new house and got suckered into helping carry tile. Ugh, that stuff is heavy. I managed to leave in time to stop at the local farmers market to check out the goods people had on display. Since I can't carry cash with me, or I spend it, I only had a measly dollar in my pocket which I used to splurge on some homemade dog treats for Gunnar. Spoiled much?

Since I have my very own jungle garden I just went home and picked my own produce. Good thing or I'd be in the poor house. I've got my own tomatoes that cost way less than $2.50 a lb. Is that really the going rate?? If so, I easily picked 25 bucks of tomatoes from my garden Friday night.

Obviously I sliced those puppies (tomatoes, not real puppies) up and fried some bacon to make myself a lovely bacon tomato sandwich (or 2). Best summer meal ever. I know most people add lettuce to make this a bLt but who are we kidding people? Do you really think that one measly slice of lettuce is making this meal healthy? I assure you it's not. Just replace the lettuce with another slice of bacon and be thankful that you are enjoying those savory bites of fried pork before your heart explodes.

Summer on a plate my friend.

Then I sorted my coupons and made my shopping list for my price match extravaganza the next day. Maybe watched a little DVR because I'm cool and can do that now.

Saturday I spent an unnecessary amount of time price matching groceries at Wal-Mart. Apparently every effin person in the little ole town of Lawrence, KS (aka Jayhawk territory) was back to school shopping. A living nightmare. Literally. I managed to grab the items on my list and make it out in right under two hours. Not sure if I would consider that a win or a lose. Fortunately Target housed a little more sanity as I swung in to pick up a few un-neccessary (shirts) items.

I ventured back to my parents house in the afternoon to play with a cute baby, my parents watch, when his parents are on call. My mom and I went to church and then I gotta to spend more time playing with the other baby, that my mom nanny's for. The little girl is just precious and she let me hold her so I was pretty excited. Baby fever? Maybe.

Apparently someone else must think I have baby fever too, or possibly just thinks I've put on a few lbs, cause these dang magazines all showed up to my house last week....

#notpregnant #toomanyblts
Sunday was pretty lackadaisical with another meal of blts while meeting with my church's other youth group leaders. Followed by lots of couch lounging and maybe a nap. I finished off the evening by doing a photoshoot for a high school senior and catching up on my favorite mind numbing (dumbing??) shows.

Oh, and I found $20 in a parking lot so that pretty much makes the whole weekend a win right?
Hell-o Mr. Jackson!

7 Quick Takes {12}

1. In 15, count them, 15 days, I will be setting sail on a boat more glorious than the Titanic. Icebergs not included, praise the lord. The amount of fun and sun and food to be had is about to get crazy. Don't be surprised if I return as an unrecognizable tanned whale of a human being.

Before cruise Julie

After cruise Julie

2. Today's my brother Joe's birthday. He's 25, which is a big deal considering almost seven years ago we thought he might not live another hour, much less long enough to see another birthday. Someday I will get around to writing his story but for now you can watch a video about him on youtube. Happy Birthday little brother that doesn't read my blog so he will never see this!

3. In my quest to be a little healthier (who am I kidding? did you see yesterday's post?) I've decided to quit drinking pop. I'm already hating life. Please explain to me how that sugary sweet little can of carbonated heaven can sink it's extra sharp nails into my taste buds and make me want to drown myself in corn syrup. Why is this so hard?!!!

4. All my dreams have come true! Sophia Grace is going to be in a movie! Why has this taken so long?? If you don't know who Sophia Grace is you should google her and watch every single video she is in 1000 times. NOW. I just want to "honey I shrunk the kids" this girl and put her in my pocket.
Girl after my heart right there.

5. Do normal people get excited about going grocery shopping or is it just me? I had to stop into the store last night to pick up some puppy food (how does he eat SO MUCH?!) and I just wanted to buy ALL THE THINGS! All the pretty packaging and salty, sweet, and savory things just calling my name. Sale things anyway. I eat too much to not shop the sales. My store had so many good sales and I just wanted to buy them all and spend zero dollars. I'm convinced I was 500lbs in a previous life (again, see yesterday's post). Lets hope those pounds stay in that life.

6. I think I'm sick. My DVR arrived on Wednesday and I installed it Wednesday night. Pretty sure the Dish customer service guy wanted to kiss my feet because I was nice to him. I've been there buddy. (Side Note: Don't be mean to CS people. They hate their job more than you hate them.) Anywho...it's Friday and I have yet to record a show. Ummm...wtf. I did use the pause feature so I guess I'm not a total DVR failure.

7. To my mom. Since I know you read this, this is your warning. If you ever want to see them again, you should probably hide the new Milky Way bites that you have front row center in your freezer. And that doesn't mean putting them in the garage freezer. I know your hiding place and you need new ones. Also, I have no self control. You're welcome in advance. #fatkid

If You Really Knew Me

You'd know that I occasionally open a can of chocolate frosting just so I can eat it from a spoon. Or a bag of chocolate chips.

You'd know I'm almost always cold. The people I work with laugh at me because I always have on a hoodie.

You'd know that I make lists constantly. It helps me sleep at night because I know I won't forget anything since it's written down.

You'd know I'm jealous of large families and wish I could have more siblings. Love the two I've got though.

You'd know my husband is the one and only guy I have ever dated or kissed. Sounds a little crazy, I know, but I think I just got lucky.

You'd know I am the laziest person in the world when it comes to taking off chipped nail polish. 3 weeks right now.
Embarrassing..

You'd know I rarely wear make up. I'm talking maybe a few times a month.

You'd know I'm super indecisive and always terrified of making the wrong choices.

You'd know I prefer tennis shoes to any other type of shoe. Ever.

You'd know I despise waking up early for any reason besides vacations or black friday shopping.

You'd know I have an obsession with pretty paper and design products. Notecards, notebooks, pretty books, gift bags, tags. Anything really. I have stacks and drawers full of it.

You'd know I wish I was a fitness junkie but love my junk foods too much.

You'd know that I'm the first person emailed at work when somebody brings in food. Surprised?

You'd know that I have a huge fear of failure and it causes me to never take chances. Trying to work on this though.

You'd know that while I like to go out, I'm definitely a homebody.

You'd know I have surprised myself by still posting to this blog several months later!

Do you know me? What else do people need to know about me?

Growing Up Sucks

Some days being a grown up sucks. Big time. I'd really love it if Tink could swing by and sprinkle me with pixie dust so I could fly off off and away to a happy little place called Neverland. You know, the place where you never have to grow up? The place were responsibilities are far far away and your worst day consists of sitting on rocks, soaking up the sun, mermaid style?

Since I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon lets have a little bitch fest so that we can all feel better that we're not alone. Maybe then we can move on with our shitty grown up lives.

And so I introduce...

Reason #1 - Buying gas

Remember growing up and your parents would occasionally slip you $20 for gas? I appreciated this a lot back in the day but let's just say I would appreciate it even more now that gas is almost $60 a tank. In a couple more years it will cost more for the gas to get me to work than what I make while I'm there.

Reason #2 - People at work making you look bad

You know when someone screws something up at work and it makes you look bad? You get pissed and can't even say anything because you know you will sound like a 2 year old pointing fingers saying "he did it!" Yeah, I hate that.

Reason #3 - All your bills are due within 7 days of each other

How the hell does this happen? It's like all the bad karma in the world got together and decided to purge your bank account every month. So depressing.

Reason #4 - You have to buy boring things

Sometimes you even get excited about buying boring things. Like a mattress. I promise you I will never get excited about buying tires or toilet paper though.

Reason #5 - Making decisions

This is why people hate change. Change requires decisions and we just don't like to make them. It's back to the ole "why fix what's not broke" scenario. When you make changes you have to make decisions and there's too freakin many! Don't believe me? Ask your husband/boyfriend/significant other what they want for dinner!

Happy Hump Day Sassypants!
